Kaş and Kalkan: what a long western transfer really involves
The long routes west of the airport, when a break is worth building in, and how pricing changes past the two-hour mark.
The western coast is the part of the Antalya region people underestimate on a map. The distance looks manageable; the road does not behave like the distance suggests. Beyond Kumluca the highway becomes a mountain road that climbs, descends and turns for most of its length.

Why the price rises faster than the distance
A transfer to Lara occupies a driver for under an hour and the vehicle is back at the airport quickly. A transfer to Kalkan takes most of the day once the return leg is counted, and the driver comes back empty unless a return passenger happens to be waiting. You are paying for the round trip and the driver's day, not for one direction.
Plan the journey, not just the price
- Build in a stop. On a three-hour drive one break is normal and most companies include it without charge. Ask rather than assume.
- Prefer daylight if you can choose. The scenery is genuinely worth it and the mountain sections are easier in the light.
- Motion sickness is a real consideration on this road. A front seat and a light meal beforehand help more than anything else.
- Villa addresses need detail. Steep, narrow access lanes are the norm in Kalkan, and not every vehicle can reach every gate.
- Book earlier than you would for Kemer or Belek. Fewer operators serve the far west, particularly outside high season.
If you are considering flying into Dalaman instead, check the transfer distance from there before deciding. For the far western resorts the arithmetic can go either way, and it depends on where exactly you are staying.
What to confirm before you agree
For a journey of this length, get four things in writing: the total price, whether a stop is included, what happens if your flight is delayed, and the exact drop-off point. On a short transfer a vague answer costs you a few minutes. On this route it costs you an afternoon.
