None of that is unreasonable. What matters is that the surcharge is named before you agree, as a figure and with a stated cut-off time, rather than appearing as a surprise when you land.
Ask two questions in one message: what is the night surcharge and from what time does it apply. An operator who answers both with numbers is one you can plan around.
Waiting time is the other line
Night arrivals are also the arrivals most likely to slip. Passport control queues at three in the morning are shorter, but a delayed departure earlier in the day arrives here. Confirm how much free waiting time is included after landing and what each additional block costs.
What actually helps at night
- Send your flight number. At night this matters more than at any other hour, because there are fewer staff to sort out confusion.
- Confirm the driver's name and phone number the evening before, while you can still read a message properly.
- Have a means of communication that works on landing. A driver you cannot reach at three in the morning is a long wait.
- If you are travelling with children, ask for the seat again in the same message. Night shifts change vehicles more often.
Is it worth booking in advance
For a night arrival, yes, without much argument. The options waiting at the terminal at that hour are fewer and less negotiable, and a fixed price agreed while you were still at home is worth more when you are tired than any saving you might have haggled for.
